Sperm Donor Not Obligated to Pay Child Support

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has overturned a ruling by the Superior Court that ordered a sperm donor to pay child support and held that a ruling in Mother's favor would affect the legal relationships created in commercial sperm donation. Although the best interests of the child are always paramount, in this case the Court took into consideration the effect that a ruling in favor of the sperm donor being required to pay child support would have on potential donors' willingness to donate sperm and that effect on infertile couples.
